The latest review I've received of Ripped Apart makes me wonder why someone offers to read and review Sci-Fi, when they seem not to have any interest in science! That a house can speak was categorised as childish and the book was not recommended for reading by children. Quite right. It features a pair of 15 year-old twins and is aimed at teenagers and adults. Has the reviewer never used, "Hullo Google" or Windows 10 and Cortana? But - I'm also out of touch! Talking to my 8 year-old … [Read more...]
Twins Website
Great new guy has been improving the Twins Website. I'd used strong red for some words that Gary has changed to a rich but softer yellow. I'd gone for red as it's Qwelby's favourite colour - as on the bodysuit he wears in the first book in the series - Ripped Apart. Tullia isn't into yellow as her favourites are purples and lilacs, so the website stays with one of the colours on Qwelby's Attribute of a dragon. Most of the work has gone on 'behind the scenes' in that complicated techy world … [Read more...]
Darkness
As I became involved with the Twins' story as author, as opposed to merely as their scribe, I had to explore the background to their world of total harmony and peace - and very definitely non-violence. I discovered an idyllic world that was a total contrast to Earth. Tullia was lucky with having chosen to arrive amongst the peaceful Bushmen of the Kalahari. Qwelby was met with racially motivated violence from the first youths to whom he spoke. For him the contrast between the two world … [Read more...]
Second Time Around
The new chapters for HUNTED have come back from my copy editor. I've worked thru her comments and the revised version of Book 2 is now with my publishers. It's holiday time but the process should be underway at the beginning of next week. I am fortunate to have a great team at Matador, who have helped me with learning about the world of self publishing. It's been a challenge and an adventure. I hope I've now got it sorted and Book 3, BETRAYED will take wings smoothly, like the 'Butterfly', … [Read more...]
Disaster Averted
Book 2, Hunted, ready to go. I read it and.... ouch! After a good start a long period with no real action. Nice story, but... too long before it picked up again for the final third. Quick decision and I withdrew it before any marketing. Before my period of 'Writer's Block' I had finished revising with a mixture of shortening some scenes and adding a few new action scenes to carry the story forward. Now waiting for the new material to come back from my Copy Editor & Proof-Reader. Then.... all … [Read more...]
Blind Girl Rules!
She Is Not Invisible, by Marcus Sedgwick. On one hand it is an excellent adventure story. Told through the senses of a blind sixteen-year-old girl, whose seven-year-old-brother acts as her guide on their journey alone to the USA, it is also a marvelous and sympathetic insight into the life of a young blind person. With a lovely little 'twist', concerning people she meets. … [Read more...]
